Through the Golden Mousetrap Awards program, UBM and Design News celebrate the success of the people, companies, and technologies driving progress in today’s U.S. design and manufacturing industries. The awards recognize innovation in the development of new products in automation, electronics, materials, and design tools.
We held the 13th annual Golden Mousetrap Awards ceremony on February 11th, 2014 in conjunction with the Pacific Design & Manufacturing, MD&M West, WestPack, PLASTEC West, Electronics West, ATX West, and Aerocon shows in Anaheim, California. It was a great evening!
The categories for the 2014 event included awards for components in Automation & Control, Design Tools, Electronics & Test and Materials & Assembly. Stratasys generously provided custom-made 3D printed trophies for the winners.
The finalists and award recipients can be found on the Design News site here.
In addition to the awards presentations, two other prestigious awards were handed out. The Rising Engineering Stars Award, presented in partnership with Mouser Electronics, recognizes the tremendous engineering feats that often get hidden away in an engineering lab. We presented the award to Justine Haupt, an engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory. More information about Justine can be found here.
Design News also presented the first event Lifetime Achievement Award to National Instruments’ Founder and CEO, Dr. James Truchard.
There was also a special presentation of the Gadget Freak of the Year, Andrew Morris, brought to you by Allied Electronics. Please take a look at his gadget here.
Finally, we heard a moving speech from Don Bossi, the President of FIRST, an organization founded by Dean Kamen committed to showing youth the promising futures that science and technology can hold. UBM presented FIRST with a $25,000 donation, in part from proceeds generated by the event, that will go towards scholarships to high school engineering students to further their ambitions.
